Care & Maintenance Guide

Caring for Your Hardwood Furniture

Solid hardwood furniture is built to last a lifetime — and with the right care, it only gets better with age. Follow this guide to keep your piece looking beautiful for generations.

Everyday Care

For day-to-day cleaning, simply wipe your furniture with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately with a clean dry cloth. Avoid leaving moisture on the surface, as prolonged exposure can cause swelling or staining.

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth — avoid abrasive sponges or scourers
  • Never use harsh chemical cleaners, bleach, or ammonia-based products
  • Wipe up spills immediately to prevent staining or water marks

Protecting the Surface

To protect your furniture from everyday wear, we recommend the following:

  • Use coasters under glasses and cups to prevent ring marks
  • Use placemats or table runners during meals
  • Place felt pads under decorative objects to avoid scratching
  • Avoid placing hot items directly on the timber surface

Sunlight & Environment

Timber is a natural material that responds to its environment. To minimise movement and colour change:

  • Avoid positioning your furniture in direct, prolonged sunlight — UV exposure can fade and dry out the timber over time
  • Maintain a consistent indoor humidity level where possible (40–60% relative humidity is ideal)
  • Keep furniture away from heating vents, air conditioners, and fireplaces

Structural

To prevent structural damage to your product:

  • Avoid overloading your table with excessive weight, beyond normal household use
  • Don't lean on, or hang off the product. Prevent children from climbing on the furniture
  • Buy anchoring hardware that suits your wall type

Refreshing Your Piece

One of the great advantages of solid timber is that it can be refreshed over time. If your piece develops surface scratches or the finish dulls, it can be lightly sanded and re-finished to restore its original beauty. This is something a professional furniture restorer can assist with, or contact us for advice.
